  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to student discipline; amending

  3         s. 230.23015, F.S.; revising provisions

  4         relating to discipline of students who have

  5         committed an assault or battery on specified

  6         employees; providing an effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10         Section 1.  Section 230.23015, Florida Statutes, 1996

11  Supplement, is amended to read:

12         230.23015  Students violating s. 784.081; expulsion and

13  placement in alternative school setting.--Notwithstanding any

14  other provision of law, each district school board shall adopt

15  rules providing that any student found to have committed a

16  violation of s. 784.081 shall be expelled and placed in an

17  alternative school setting for a minimum period of 1 year.

18  Upon being charged with the offense, the student shall be

19  removed from the classroom immediately and placed in an

20  alternative school setting pending disposition.

21         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1997.
