Florida House of Representatives - 1997 HB 2043 By Representative Miller 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to district school board 3 elections; requiring certain school districts 4 to elect district school board members from 5 single-member residence areas; providing for 6 orderly transition; providing an effective 7 date. 8 9 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 10 11 Section 1. (1) In school districts having a 12 population of 900,000 or more persons, district school board 13 members must be elected from single-member residence areas by 14 electors residing in each of the single-member residence areas 15 only, notwithstanding the provisions of s. 230.061, s. 230.10, 16 or s. 230.105, Florida Statutes. 17 (2) In school districts having a population of 900,000 18 or more persons, the district school board shall provide for 19 the orderly transition to election from single-member 20 residence areas as the terms of incumbent school board members 21 expire. 22 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a 23 law. 24 25 ***************************************** 26 HOUSE SUMMARY 27 Requires district school board members to be elected from 28 single-member residence areas in school districts having a population of 900,000 or more persons.
