  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to public universities;

  3         requiring public universities to include fine

  4         arts courses grades when calculating

  5         grade-point averages for certain purposes;

  6         providing an effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9

10         Section 1.  In calculating grade-point averages, for

11  purposes of admitting students to state universities and for

12  purposes of awarding Florida Bright Futures Scholarships,

13  public universities in this state must include all grades

14  earned in fine arts courses, pursuant to section

15  242.246(1)(h)2., Florida Statutes, with the same weight as

16  other core curriculum courses.

17         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1998.
