18 Section 7. Paragraphs (a) and (c) of subsection (3)
19 and subsection (4) of section 232.425, Florida Statutes, are
20 amended to read:
21 232.425 Student standards for participation in
22 interscholastic extracurricular student activities;
23 regulation.--
24 (3)(a) To be eligible to participate in
25 interscholastic extracurricular student activities, a student
26 must maintain a grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale; if
27 the student has not passed five subjects for the grading
28 period immediately preceding participation and, during the
29 grading period in which he or she wishes to participate,
30 improves his or her grade to passing for that subject, the
31 teacher shall certify the change in the student's grade to the

1 school administration, which shall verify that the student has
2 increased his or her grade point average to 2.0 on a 4.0
3 scale. If the student has increased his or her grade point
4 average to 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, the student is eligible to
5 participate in interscholastic extracurricular student
6 activities at the time his or her grade point average is
7 verified and need not wait until the beginning of the next
8 grading period to regain eligibility. Student eligibility for
9 the first grading period of each new school year shall be
10 based on passing five subjects and maintaining the required
11 grade point average the previous school year, including
12 subjects completed during the interim summer school session. a
13 student entering the 9th grade during the 1997-1998 school
14 year and thereafter must maintain a cumulative grade point
15 average of 2.0 or above on a 4.0 scale, or its equivalent, in
16 the courses required by s. 232.246(1). In order to be eligible
17 under this section, students who entered the 9th grade prior
18 to the 1997-1998 school year must maintain a cumulative grade
19 point average of 2.0 or above on a 4.0 scale, or its
20 equivalent, in the courses required by s. 232.246(1) that are
21 taken after July 1, 1997, or have an overall cumulative grade
22 point average of 2.0 or above. Eligibility for the first
23 semester of the 1997-1998 school year for those students who
24 entered the 9th grade prior to the 1997-1998 school year shall
25 be based on the school board's policy in effect for the
26 1996-1997 school year. Additionally, a student must maintain
27 satisfactory conduct and, if a student is convicted of, or is
28 found to have committed, a felony or a delinquent act which
29 would have been a felony if committed by an adult, regardless
30 of whether adjudication is withheld, the student's
31 participation in interscholastic extracurricular activities is
