14 On page 8, lines 25-31, delete those lines

16 and insert:
17 Section 7. Paragraphs (a) and (c) of subsection (3)
18 and subsection (4) of section 232.425, Florida Statutes, are
19 amended to read:
20 232.425 Student standards for participation in
21 interscholastic extracurricular student activities;
22 regulation.--
23 (3)(a) To be eligible to participate in
24 interscholastic extracurricular student activities, a student
25 must maintain a grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale and
26 must pass five subjects for the grading period immediately
27 preceding participation; except that student eligibility for
28 the first grading period of each new school year shall be
29 based on passing five subjects and maintaining the required
30 grade point average the previous school year, including
31 subjects completed during the interim summer school session. a

1 student entering the 9th grade during the 1997-1998 school
2 year and thereafter must maintain a cumulative grade point
3 average of 2.0 or above on a 4.0 scale, or its equivalent, in
4 the courses required by s. 232.246(1). In order to be eligible
5 under this section, students who entered the 9th grade prior
6 to the 1997-1998 school year must maintain a cumulative grade
7 point average of 2.0 or above on a 4.0 scale, or its
8 equivalent, in the courses required by s. 232.246(1) that are
9 taken after July 1, 1997, or have an overall cumulative grade
10 point average of 2.0 or above. Eligibility for the first
11 semester of the 1997-1998 school year for those students who
12 entered the 9th grade prior to the 1997-1998 school year shall
13 be based on the school board's policy in effect for the
14 1996-1997 school year. Additionally, a student must maintain
15 satisfactory conduct and, if a student is convicted of, or is
16 found to have committed, a felony or a delinquent act which
17 would have been a felony if committed by an adult, regardless
18 of whether adjudication is withheld, the student's
19 participation in interscholastic extracurricular activities is
20 contingent upon established and published school board policy.
