  1                 Senate Joint Resolution No.     

  2         A joint resolution proposing the creation of

  3         Section 18 of Article X of the State

  4         Constitution to state the rights of parents to

  5         consent to their minor children's medical

  6         treatment, including abortion.

  8  Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9

10         That the creation of Section 18 of Article X of the

11  State Constitution is agreed to and shall be submitted to the

12  electors of this state for approval or rejection at the next

13  general election or at an earlier special election

14  specifically authorized by law for that purpose:

15                            ARTICLE X

16                          MISCELLANEOUS

17         SECTION 18.  Medical treatment, abortion; parental

18  consent.--Nothing in this constitution shall be deemed to

19  restrict a parent's right to consent to medical treatment,

20  including, but not limited to, abortion, for that parent's

21  minor child as permitted by the United States Constitution.

22  This state has a compelling interest in protecting the rights

23  of parents to make such decisions for their minor children.

24         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the following statement be

25  placed on the ballot:

26                     CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

27                      ARTICLE X, SECTION 18

28         ABORTION, OTHER MEDICAL TREATMENT; PARENTAL

29  CONSENT.--Proposing an amendment to the State Constitution

30  declaring the right of parents to consent to medical
