  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to building designations;

  3         designating and naming the Children's Medical

  4         Services facility currently under construction

  5         at 5192 Bayou Boulevard in the City of

  6         Pensacola, Escambia County, as the "Dr. Reed

  7         Bell and Dr. John H. Whitcomb Building";

  8         directing the Department of Management Services

  9         to erect suitable markers; providing an

10         effective date.

12         WHEREAS, the late John H. Whitcomb, M.D., was a

13  distinguished pediatrician and pediatric cardiologist, with

14  over 35 years of practice in Florida, and

15         WHEREAS, Dr. Whitcomb had been Director of Medical

16  Affairs at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola and Director of

17  Children's Medical Services for District I of the Department

18  of Health and Rehabilitative Services, and

19         WHEREAS, Reed Bell, Sr., M.D., is a distinguished

20  pediatrician and pediatric endocrinologist, with over 35 years

21  of practice and teaching experience and a multitude of

22  professional and academic achievements in these fields, and

23         WHEREAS, Dr. Bell is presently Director of Children's

24  Medical Services for District I of the Department of Health,

25  and

26         WHEREAS, it is a fitting tribute to the accomplishments

27  of these two dedicated pediatric physicians that the

28  Children's Medical Services facility in Pensacola be named in

29  their honor, NOW, THEREFORE,

31  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  1         Section 1.  The Children's Medical Services facility

  2  presently under construction at 5192 Bayou Boulevard in the

  3  City of Pensacola, Escambia County, is hereby designated as

  4  the "Dr. Reed Bell and Dr. John H. Whitcomb Building."

  5         Section 2.  The Department of Management Services is

  6  authorized and directed to erect appropriate markers

  7  designating the "Dr. Reed Bell and Dr. John H. Whitcomb

  8  Building."

  9         Section 3.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

10  law.
