  1                    Senate Resolution No.     

  2         A resolution commending Jack and Ruth Eckerd

  3         for their contribution to troubled youth

  4         through Eckerd Youth Alternatives, Inc.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, Jack and Ruth Eckerd have provided the means

  7  and opportunities for troubled youth to resume a more

  8  responsible, productive role in their families, schools, and

  9  communities through Eckerd Youth Alternatives, Inc., and

10         WHEREAS, to meet the ever-increasing needs of Florida's

11  children and young adults, Jack and Ruth Eckerd were among the

12  first to join in the public-private partnerships with the

13  state through Eckerd Youth Alternatives, Inc., and

14         WHEREAS, this relationship has, for more than 25 years,

15  provided services to emotionally troubled young people, and

16         WHEREAS, the thousands of lives touched by Jack and

17  Ruth Eckerd through Eckerd Youth Alternatives, Inc.,

18  exemplifies their quality and commitment to young people, and

19         WHEREAS, Jack and Ruth Eckerd's original concept, which

20  was conceived in Eckerd Youth Alternatives, Inc., has expanded

21  to 26 programs in seven states benefitting more than 3,000

22  children, youth, and young adults each day, and

23         WHEREAS, Jack and Ruth Eckerd are widely recognized as

24  leaders in services to youth at risk, achieving local, state,

25  and national acclaim through Eckerd Youth Alternatives, Inc.,

26  and

27         WHEREAS, Jack and Ruth Eckerd have given selflessly of

28  their time, talents, and personal resources to ensure that

29  youth are given an opportunity to reach their fullest

30  potential, NOW, THEREFORE,

  1  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

  2

  3         That Jack and Ruth Eckerd are commended for their

  4  commitment to children and young adults and for their untiring

  5  contributions to this state.

  6         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution,

  7  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Jack and

  8  Ruth Eckerd as a tangible token of the esteem of the Florida

  9  Senate.
