  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to motor vehicles; amending s.

  3         320.01, F.S.; defining the term "Neighborhood

  4         Vehicle"; providing an effective date.

  6  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  7

  8         Section 1.  Subsection (42) is added to section 320.01,

  9  Florida Statutes, to read:

10         320.01  Definitions, general.--As used in the Florida

11  Statutes, except as otherwise provided, the term:

12         (42)  "Neighborhood Vehicle" means a self-propelled,

13  electrically powered motor vehicle that is emission free,

14  designed to be and is operated at speeds of 25 miles per hour

15  or less, has at least four wheels in contact with the ground,

16  has an unloaded weight of less than 1,800 pounds, and is

17  equipped with efficient brakes, headlights, brakelights,

18  turnsignals, windshield, rear-view mirrors, and three-point

19  safety belts.

20         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1,1998.
