11  Senators Gutman and Casas moved the following amendment:

13         Senate Amendment 

14         On page 3, lines 11 - 28 delete those lines

15

16  and insert:  by general law, does not exceed a specified

17  amount established by general law. The general law must allow

18  counties and municipalities to grant this additional

19  exemption, within the limits prescribed in this subsection, by

20  ordinance adopted in the manner prescribed by general law, and

21  must provide for the periodic adjustment of the income

22  limitation prescribed in this subsection for changes in the

23  cost of living.

24         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the following statement be

25  placed on the ballot:

26                     CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

27                      ARTICLE VII, SECTION 6

28         ADDITIONAL HOMESTEAD TAX EXEMPTION.--Proposing an

29  amendment to the State Constitution, effective January 1,

30  1999, to authorize the Legislature to allow counties and

31  municipalities to grant an additional homestead tax exemption
