7 Hillsborough County school district; specifying
8 the qualifications of students who may be
9 served in the facility; providing for funding
10 of the facility; providing an effective date.

12 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

14 Section 1. Section 230.23162, Florida Statutes, as
15 transferred, amended, and renumbered by section 1 of chapter
16 97-382, Laws of Florida, is amended to read:

19 230.23162 Residential public education facility;
20 establishment; operation; students; funding.--
21 (1) The education facility constructed under this
22 section is designated as a residential public education
23 facility that shall be jointly operated by the Department of
24 Juvenile Justice and the Hillsborough County School Board
25 through a cooperative agreement. Students to be served in the
26 facility must reside in the counties of Hillsborough,
27 Pinellas, Manatee, Polk, or any other county that has entered
28 into an agreement with the department and the Hillsborough
29 County school district. Students must be at-risk, as defined
30 in the cooperative agreement, and may be in transition from a
31 residential program for juvenile delinquents.

1 (2) Funding for the residential component of the
2 program must be provided through appropriations to the
3 Department of Juvenile Justice. Funding for the educational
4 component of the program must be provided through the Florida
5 Education Finance Program.
6 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 1998.

9 SENATE SUMMARY
10 Provides for the public education facility constructed
under s. 230.23162, F.S., to be jointly operated by the
11 Department of Juvenile Justice and the Hillsborough
County school district. Provides qualifications of
12 students who may be served in the facility. Provides for
the residential component of the facility to be funded
13 through the Department of Juvenile Justice and for the
