  1                    Senate Resolution No.     

  2         A resolution honoring Homestead Councilwoman

  3         Ruth L. Campbell.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, Ruth L. Campbell began her public service in

  6  1963, when she was elected to serve on the Homestead City

  7  Council, and

  8         WHEREAS, now in her 23rd year as councilwoman, Ruth L.

  9  Campbell has been a most effective leader, directing her

10  energies toward a myriad of activities in service of not only

11  the citizens of Homestead, but of all the people of Miami-Dade

12  County, and

13         WHEREAS, elected and reelected Vice Mayor of the City

14  of Homestead, Ruth L. Campbell was serving in that capacity

15  when the area was devastated by Hurricane Andrew and,

16  canvassing the neighborhoods to determine the resultant needs,

17  she solicited donations, which she personally distributed, and

18  she continues to be actively involved in the rebuilding of

19  Homestead and the surrounding areas, and

20         WHEREAS, Ruth L. Campbell is extremely active on behalf

21  of the homeless, and serves in several organizations devoted

22  to relieving the plight of this segment of society, and

23         WHEREAS, serving on local, state, and national boards

24  and committees, Ruth L. Campbell has been and continues to be

25  involved in governmental affairs, public safety, emergency

26  preparedness, utility and transportation concerns, health

27  care, education, the arts, sports, and historic preservation,

28  while still serving in her church and in countless civic

29  organizations, and

30         WHEREAS, Ruth L. Campbell has been the recipient of

31  many awards, among them, the Athena Award from the Chamber of

  1  Commerce and the Woman's History Month Award, and has been

  2  named Woman of the Year by the Cancer Society and Official of

  3  the Year by the Florida League of Cities, NOW, THEREFORE,

  4

  5  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

  6

  7         That the Florida Senate pauses in its deliberations to

  8  honor Councilwoman Ruth L. Campbell for her 23 years of

  9  service on the Homestead City Council and to all the people of

10  Miami-Dade County.

11         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

12  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Ruth L.

13  Campbell as a tangible token of the sentiments of the Florida

14  Senate.
