  1                    Senate Resolution No.     

  2         A resolution recognizing and commending Stiefel

  3         Laboratories, Inc., on its success as an

  4         international leader in dermatology and

  5         healthcare products.

  6

  7         WHEREAS, Stiefel Laboratories, Inc., an international

  8  corporation specializing in skin care products, had its

  9  beginning in 1847 in Germany as a maker of soaps and candles,

10  and made its transition into dermatology in response to the

11  therapeutic use of soaps as a delivery system for many

12  medications during the mid-nineteenth century, and

13         WHEREAS, Stiefel focused on producing medicated soaps

14  focusing on the skin's health, and

15         WHEREAS, August C. Stiefel and his sons opened their

16  first manufacturing facility in this country in 1945, in Oak

17  Hill, New York, and

18         WHEREAS, dedicated research and development efforts and

19  a close cooperation with the medical community created new

20  opportunities for Stiefel to address the market and its

21  therapeutic needs through the introduction of new products,

22  and

23         WHEREAS, during the last five decades, Stiefel

24  Laboratories has grown into a significant global manufacturing

25  and distribution organization with subsidiaries in over 30

26  countries that serve more than 100 countries, and

27         WHEREAS, Stiefel Laboratories is recognized for its

28  "leading edge" technology for the treatment of skin

29  conditions, and

30         WHEREAS, Stiefel is the largest dermatology specialty

31  company in the world and boasts six primary manufacturing

  1  sites on four continents, providing products for the world

  2  market, and

  3         WHEREAS, Stiefel Laboratories has grown to a force that

  4  employs more than 1,500 people, but maintains a

  5  family-oriented corporate culture, and

  6         WHEREAS, Stiefel Laboratories, Inc., maintains a home

  7  office in Coral Cables, Florida, and creates jobs and

  8  opportunities for people throughout Florida, and

  9         WHEREAS, Stiefel is a unique international corporation

10  that is family-directed and employee-friendly and that has

11  roots going back more than 150 years, yet is positioned for

12  success in the twenty-first century, NOW, THEREFORE,

13

14  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

15

16         That Stiefel Laboratories, Inc., is recognized and

17  commended for its outstanding accomplishments and its proud

18  150-year history in the field of dermatology and healthcare

19  products in this state and throughout the United States and

20  around the world.

21         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

22  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Stiefel

23  Laboratories, Inc., as a tangible token of the esteem of the

24  Florida Senate.
