  1                    Senate Resolution No.     

  2         A resolution honoring Isadore Billy Reed.

  3

  4         WHEREAS, Isadore Billy Reed was a star athlete

  5  throughout his high school and college careers, having played

  6  football, baseball, and basketball in both high school and

  7  college, and

  8         WHEREAS, upon graduating from Florida A&M University,

  9  Billy Reed, as he is called by most who know him, became a

10  teacher and coach in the Hillsborough County School System, a

11  career to which he devoted his life for more than 40 years,

12  and

13         WHEREAS, Billy Reed was instrumental in organizing the

14  Belmont Heights Little League, a program that not only has

15  produced outstanding young men, but has achieved international

16  fame, and

17         WHEREAS, such notable athletes as Dwight Gooden, Gary

18  Sheffield, Carl Everette, Frank Romano, Vance Lovelace, and

19  many others are the product of Billy Reed's commitment to his

20  chosen profession, and

21         WHEREAS, Billy Reed won more than 400 games as a

22  baseball coach alone and has been inducted into the Walk of

23  Fame, the Florida A&M University Hall of Fame, and the West

24  Coast Rattlers Booster Club's Hillsborough County Wall of

25  Fame, and

26         WHEREAS, Billy Reed, devoted husband and father, has

27  received many awards, honors, and commendations for his

28  leadership ability, his service to the Tampa Bay community,

29  his dedication to youth, and his contributions to education

30  and sports, and

  1         WHEREAS, though retired from his profession, Billy Reed

  2  is still active in his community, with an emphasis on youth

  3  sports, and it is fitting that he be recognized as an

  4  individual who has done much to benefit the children of

  5  Hillsborough County and bring honor to the State of Florida,

  6  NOW, THEREFORE,

  8  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

  9

10         That the Florida Senate pauses in its deliberations to

11  recognize Isadore Billy Reed for his dedication to his

12  profession and to honor him for the positive influence he has

13  had on the lives he has touched.

14         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

15  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Isadore

16  Billy Reed as a token of the sentiments of the Florida Senate.
