1 Senate Resolution No.
2 A resolution recognizing the Florida National
3 Guard for its faithful service to both the
4 State of Florida and the country and
5 celebrating Florida National Guard Day.

7 WHEREAS, the Florida National Guard is the direct and
8 lineal descendant organization of the first Spanish militia
9 companies formed in St. Augustine in 1565, and the Florida
10 National Guard continues to serve the State of Florida as the
11 true and organized militia, under the Department of Military
12 Affairs and the Adjutant General of Florida, and
13 WHEREAS, during this past year the Florida National
14 Guard mobilized to State Active Duty to support the state
15 during Hurricane Danny, to perform one search operation during
16 a period of flooding in north Florida, and to carry out
17 humanitarian relief operations during the tornado recovery in
18 central Florida, and
19 WHEREAS, the Florida Army National Guard continues to
20 perform in a consistently outstanding manner in all U.S. Army
21 missions both at home and overseas, with soldiers currently
22 deployed in Kuwait, and the Florida Air National Guard
23 continues to provide for the air defense of the peninsula of
24 Florida as well as the entire southeastern United States and
25 recently received an outstanding rating on a U.S. Air Force
26 operational readiness inspection for the first time in the
27 history of the unit and currently has airmen serving in Bosnia
28 and Saudi Arabia, and
29 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the service of
30 the Florida National Guard by designating April 15, 1998, as

1 Florida National Guard Day in the State of Florida, NOW,
2 THEREFORE,

4 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
5
6 That the Senate officially recognizes the true and
7 faithful service of the Florida National Guard both to the
8 State of Florida and to the United States of America and
9 commends and expresses great appreciation to the Florida
10 National Guard for this distinguished service to Florida and
11 the country.
12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Florida Senate wishes
13 to recognize this service and dedication of the Florida
14 National Guard by celebrating April 15, 1998, as Florida
15 National Guard Day in the State of Florida.
16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
17 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Major
18 General Ronald O. Harrison, the Adjutant General of the State
19 of Florida, as a tangible token of the sentiments of the
20 Florida Senate.
