2 A resolution expressing regret at the death of
3 Dr. John Albert McKinney.

5 WHEREAS, the Florida Senate, with deep regret, has
6 learned of the death of Dr. John Albert McKinney, and
7 WHEREAS, Dr. McKinney for 35 years had an outstanding
8 career as a Dade County school administrator, and
9 WHEREAS, it is fitting that the Florida Senate
10 commemorate the passing of a distinguished Florida resident
11 who contributed greatly to the well-being of this state, NOW,
12 THEREFORE,

14 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
15
16 That this legislative body does pause in its
17 deliberations to pay its respects to the late Dr. John Albert
18 McKinney and that the Florida Senate in session assembled does
19 record this testimonial of esteem and bereavement:

21 JOHN ALBERT MCKINNEY
22 John Albert McKinney was born in Miami, attended the
23 Dade County public schools, and was graduated from Booker T.
24 Washington High School in Overtown. Subsequently, Dr. McKinney
25 earned a B.S. degree in History at Florida A & M University, a
26 master's degree at Barry University, and a doctorate in
27 Education at Nova University. He then dedicated his life and
28 career to educating youthful minds.
29 Dr. McKinney's numerous career highlights include
30 serving as the principal of Holmes Elementary School and
31 opening adult centers at Miami Central Senior High School and

1 at Miami Sunset Senior High School. In addition to being
2 county school administrator, he was a site administrator for
3 Nova University, a professor of teacher education and director
4 of the Masters and Educational Specialist program in Nova's
5 Center for the Advancement of Education, and a professor of
6 education at Nova-Southeastern University and at The Union
7 Institute.
8 During his career, John A. McKinney received hundreds
9 of civil and education awards, including recognition as one of
10 the 500 Male Role Models of Excellence. He also capably
11 fulfilled many civic and community duties and was the devoted
12 husband of Rhonda Edwards McKinney and the father of three
13 sons, Mario, Chauncey, and JaRon McKinney.
14 Dr. John A. McKinney will long be remembered by the
15 many residents of Dade County whose lives he touched for his
16 35 years of educational service and dedication to the students
17 and community of Dade County.
18 I, William H. "Bill" Turner, Senator, 36th District,
19 State of Florida, on behalf of myself and of the Florida
20 Senate, do express condolences to the family of Dr. John
21 Albert McKinney and do proclaim our appreciation and respect
22 for his many contributions to our county and state.
23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
24 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be transmitted to Mrs.
25 Rhonda Edwards McKinney, widow of Dr. John Albert McKinney, as
26 a tangible token of the respect of the members of the Florida
27 Senate.
