  1                    Senate Resolution No.     

  2         A resolution honoring the Miami Carol City

  3         Senior High School varsity football team.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, Miami Carol City High School is a beacon of

  6  academic excellence, sponsoring several special student

  7  programs, including a Legal and Public Affairs Magnet,

  8  Criminal Justice, Gifted, and Pacesetters programs, and having

  9  approximately 225 football scholarships awarded over the past

10  15 years, and

11         WHEREAS, the athletic department of Miami Carol City

12  High School has proven itself to be a powerhouse among high

13  school athletics, winning state championships in thirteen

14  sports from 1969 through 1997, and

15         WHEREAS, the varsity football team of Miami Carol City

16  High School, under the outstanding leadership of Coach Walt

17  Frazier, was led to a perfect season of 15 and 0, and

18         WHEREAS, the Miami Carol City High School varsity

19  football team intrepidly defeated the Lake City Columbia High

20  School football team in the Class 6-A State Championships by a

21  score of 20-17, and

22         WHEREAS, this victory has elevated Miami Carol City

23  High School to the distinction of being the first Class 6-A

24  high school to win consecutive, back-to-back football state

25  championships, and

26         WHEREAS, Coach Walt Frazier, the coaching staff,

27  cheerleaders, marching band, and every member of the Miami

28  Carol City High School varsity football team is held in high

29  esteem by the residents of Dade County, NOW, THEREFORE,

31  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

  1         That the Miami Carol City High School varsity football

  2  team is to be commended for its incredible season and for its

  3  repeat victory at the Class 6-A State Football Championships.

  4         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

  5  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Miami

  6  Carol City High School as a tangible token of the appreciation

  7  and respect of the Florida Senate for such a proud tradition

  8  and such fine athletes.
