  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the State University System;

  3         amending s. 240.289, F.S.; authorizing the use

  4         of credit card, charge card, and debit card

  5         payments for tuition and fees without a service

  6         fee or surcharge; providing an effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9

10         Section 1.  Section 240.289, Florida Statutes, is

11  amended to read:

12         240.289  Credit card, charge card, and debit card use

13  in university system; authority.--The several universities in

14  the State University System are authorized, notwithstanding

15  pursuant to s. 215.322, to enter into agreements and accept

16  credit card, charge card, or debit card payments as

17  compensation for goods, services, tuition, and fees in

18  accordance with rules established by the Board of Regents. The

19  rules of the board shall allow the universities to accept

20  credit card, charge card, or debit card payments for tuition,

21  nonresident tuition, and fees without collecting a service fee

22  or surcharge.

23         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1998.
