3 s. 250.10, F.S.; revising language with respect
4 to payments under the educational tuition
5 assistance program administered by the
6 Department of Military Affairs; providing an
7 effective date.

9 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11 Section 1. Paragraphs (a) and (b) of subsection (8) of
12 section 250.10, Florida Statutes, are amended to read:
13 250.10 Appointment and duties of the Adjutant
14 General.--
15 (8) The Department of Military Affairs is authorized
16 to administer an educational tuition assistance program for
17 members of the Florida National Guard who qualify pursuant to
18 subsection (7).
19 (a) Members of the Florida National Guard as of June
20 30, 1997, shall be exempt from payment of one-half of tuition
21 and fees subject to the following limitations:
22 1. Participation in the program shall not exceed a
23 period of 10 years from the date of enrollment in the tuition
24 assistance program, or shall continue until graduation or
25 termination of the full-time or part-time student, whichever
26 occurs earlier.
27 2. Florida National Guard members shall be admitted on
28 a space-available basis.
29 (b) Notwithstanding paragraph (a) and subject to
30 appropriations, the Department of Military Affairs may pay the
31 full cost of tuition and fees for required courses for members

1 of the Florida National Guard who were members as of June 30,
2 1997, if a member is unable to obtain admittance on a
3 space-available basis and, at least on one previous occasion,
4 the member was denied admission to the required course.
5 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
6 law.

regardless of the date that the person becomes a member
