16 insert:
17 Section 1. The residence hall known as 1st Court, Pei
18 Residence Halls on the Sarasota Campus of New College at the
19 University of South Florida is named the Bob Johnson Residence
20 Hall.
21 Section 2. The residence hall known as Residence
22 Hall--Phase II on the Sarasota Campus of New College at the
23 University of South Florida is named the Ann and Alfred
24 Goldstein Residence Hall.
25 Section 3. The residence hall known as 3rd Court, Pei
26 Residence Halls on the Sarasota Campus of New College at the
27 University of South Florida is named the Elaine and Harvey
28 Rothenberg Residence Hall.
29 Section 4. The University of South Florida shall erect
30 suitable markers bearing the designations made by sections 1-3
31 of this act.

7 On page 1, lines 3-5, delete those lines

9 and insert:
10 naming three residence halls at the Sarasota
11 Campus of New College at the University of
12 South Florida; designating a building on the
13 campus of the University of North Florida as
14 the "J. Brooks Brown Hall"; providing an
15 effective date.

17 WHEREAS, Robert M. "Bob" Johnson has been and remains a
18 key supporter of New College at the University of South
19 Florida since its becoming part of the State University System
20 in 1975, and
21 WHEREAS, Bob Johnson has served with distinction on the
22 New College Foundation Board of Trustees since 1977 and as its
23 chairman since 1980, and
24 WHEREAS, Bob Johnson's many contributions to New
25 College as a State Representative and as a State Senator
26 include strong personal support and involvement, vigorous
27 day-to-day advocacy across the community and statewide,
28 including playing a major role in the 1975 merger, obtaining
29 $7 million for construction of the Jane Bancroft Cook Library,
30 securing $4.6 million for land acquisition, and assisting in
31 bringing in $1.3 million to the New College Sarasota Campus

Amendment No.
1 toward funding the Caples Fine Arts Complex, and
2 WHEREAS, Alfred Goldstein has served on the New College
3 Foundation Board of Trustees since 1992, and
4 WHEREAS, Alfred Goldstein has served as Vice-Chairman
5 of the New College Foundation Board of Trustees and currently
6 serves on the Executive Committee, and
7 WHEREAS, Alfred and Ann Goldstein's gifts to New
8 College include $400,000, which lowered the cost of the phase
9 II of the Residence Hall so that a state revenue bond could be
10 serviced by student rental fees, and
11 WHEREAS, Alfred and Ann Goldstein's assistance has made
12 possible a critical facility for New College's growth, and
13 WHEREAS, Ann and Alfred Goldstein have a keen interest
14 in the well being and betterment of the students of New
15 College, and
16 WHEREAS, Harvey Rothenberg has been an active member of
17 the New College Foundation Board of Trustees since 1995, and
18 WHEREAS, Harvey Rothenberg has made several generous
19 personal contributions in support of New College, including
20 the dedication of the campus rose garden, and
21 WHEREAS, Harvey Rothenberg has introduced many
22 individual and foundation friends, locally and throughout the
23 nation, to the New College Foundation for the purpose of
24 providing financial support, and
25 WHEREAS, Harvey Rothenberg's volunteer activities in
26 the Sarasota community extend beyond higher education and
27 include generous philanthropic support of cultural and health
28 organizations and providing wise counsel and guidance in
29 several civic initiatives, and
