14 On page 6, between lines 6 and 7, delete
15
16 insert:
17 Section 6. Subsection (5) of section 99.102, Florida
18 Statutes, is amended to read:
19 99.012 Restrictions on individuals qualifying for
20 public office.--
21 (5) A person who is a subordinate officer, deputy
22 sheriff, or police officer need not resign pursuant to this
23 section unless the person is seeking to qualify for a public
24 office which is currently held by an officer who has authority
25 to appoint, employ, promote, or otherwise supervise that
26 person and who has qualified as a candidate for reelection to
27 that office. However, upon qualifying, a the subordinate
28 officer, deputy sheriff, or police officer must take a leave
29 of absence without pay during the period in which he or she is
30 a candidate for office, whether or not the subordinate
31 officer, deputy sheriff, or police officer is required to

14 districts created by a county or municipality;
15 amending s. 189.405, F.S.; revising the amount
16 of the filing fee and the number of required
17 signatures on petitions in provisions which
18 specify how candidates for the governing board
19 of certain single-county and multicounty
20 special districts shall qualify; amending s.
21 189.429, F.S., and s. 15, ch. 97-256, Laws of
22 Florida, which require special districts,
23 including fire control districts, to submit
24 draft codified charters to the Legislature;
25 revising the deadline and requirements for such
26 codification; providing that the Legislature
27 may adopt a schedule for codification; amending
28 s. 215.425, F.S.; authorizing extra
29 compensation for special district employees
30 pursuant to resolution; amending s. 191.006,
31 F.S., relating to powers of independent special
