  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to grand juries; amending s.

  3         905.01, F.S.; increasing the maximum number of

  4         persons which may be appointed to serve on a

  5         grand jury; providing an effective date.

  7  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9         Section 1.  Subsection (1) of section 905.01, Florida

10  Statutes, is amended to read:

11         905.01  Number and procurement of grand jury;

12  replacement of member.--

13         (1)  The grand jury shall consist of not fewer than 15

14  nor or more than 21 18 persons.  The provisions of law

15  governing the qualifications, disqualifications, excusals,

16  drawing, summoning, supplying deficiencies, compensation, and

17  procurement of petit jurors apply to grand jurors.  In

18  addition, an no elected public official is not eligible for

19  service on a grand jury.

20         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1 of the

21  year in which enacted.

24                       LEGISLATIVE SUMMARY

25    Provides that a grand jury may consist of a maximum of 21
      persons rather than a maximum of 18 persons. The minimum
26    number of grand jurors remains at 15.
