  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to protective services for

  3         certain victims and witnesses; amending s.

  4         914.25, F.S.; redefining "serious felony

  5         offense" with respect to said section to

  6         include criminal attempts, solicitations, or

  7         conspiracies to commit specified offenses;

  8         providing an effective date.

10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11

12         Section 1.  Paragraph (b) of subsection (1) of section

13  914.25, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:

14         914.25  Protective services for certain victims and

15  witnesses.--

16         (1)  For purposes of this section:

17         (a)  A "victim or witness at risk of harm" means a

18  victim or witness who, as a result of cooperating in an

19  investigation or prosecution of a serious felony offense, has

20  been subjected to violence or other forms of intimidation, or

21  who is the subject of a substantial threat to commit violence.

22  The term also includes a member of the victim's or witness's

23  immediate family.

24         (b)  "Serious felony offense" means one of the

25  following offenses, and includes a criminal attempt, criminal

26  solicitation, or criminal conspiracy to commit any of the

27  following offenses: murder, manslaughter, sexual battery,

28  aggravated stalking, aggravated battery, carjacking, home

29  invasion robbery, burglary, arson, robbery, kidnapping,

30  racketeering, or trafficking in a controlled substance.

  1         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1 of the

  2  year in which enacted.
