1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to the East County Water
3 Control District, Lee and Hendry counties;
4 amending chapter 87-477, Laws of Florida, as
5 amended; providing for a change in the date of
6 election of members of the district board of
7 supervisors for each seat to conform with the
8 state general election cycle; providing for
9 extension of terms of the current members of
10 the district board of supervisors; providing an
11 effective date.

13 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

15 Section 1. Subsection (3) of section 1 of chapter
16 87-477, Laws of Florida, as amended by chapters 90-393 and
17 93-309, Laws of Florida, is amended to read:
18 Section 1. The provisions of chapter 298, Florida
19 Statutes, and chapter 63-1549, Laws of Florida, as amended, to
20 the contrary notwithstanding, the following provisions, to the
21 extent of any conflict, shall control the East County Water
22 Control District:
23 (3) Thereafter, all district supervisor elections
24 shall be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in
25 November of even-numbered odd-numbered years. All district
26 supervisors shall be elected at large by nonpartisan plurality
27 vote with the candidate who receives the highest number of
28 votes for each seat winning the election. Only registered
29 voters residing within the district shall be permitted to
30 vote. The costs of any election shall be borne by the

1 district. Terms of all supervisors shall begin on the day
2 after the election as established by this act.
3 Section 2. The terms of the supervisors of the Board
4 of Supervisors of the East County Water Control District
5 serving on the effective date of this act shall each be
6 extended for 1 year to the first Tuesday after the first
7 Monday in November of the even-numbered year following the
8 year in which their term is currently due to expire.
9 Section 3. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
10 law.
