  2         An act relating to plant control; amending s.

  3         369.252, F.S.; revising provisions relating to

  4         the Department of Environmental Protection

  5         program to achieve eradication or maintenance

  6         control of invasive exotic plants on public

  7         lands; providing an effective date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10

11         Section 1.  Section 369.252, Florida Statutes, 1996

12  Supplement, is amended to read:

13         369.252  Invasive exotic plant control on public

14  lands.--The department shall establish a program to:

15         (1)  Achieve eradication or maintenance control of

16  invasive exotic plants on public lands when the scientific

17  data indicate that they are detrimental to the state's natural

18  environment or when the Commissioner of Agriculture finds that

19  such plants or specific populations thereof are a threat to

20  the agricultural productivity of the state;

21         (2)  Assist state and local government agencies in the

22  development and implementation of coordinated management plans

23  for the eradication or maintenance control of invasive exotic

24  plant species on public lands;

25         (3)  Contract, or enter into agreements, with entities

26  in the State University System or other governmental or

27  private sector entities for research concerning biological

28  control agents; production and growth of biological control

29  agents; and development of workable methods for the

30  eradication or maintenance control management of invasive

31  exotic plants on public lands; and

  1         (4)  Use funds in the Aquatic Plant Control Trust Fund

  2  as authorized by the Legislature for carrying out activities

  3  under this section on public lands.

  4         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

  5  law.
