  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to attorneys employed by the

  3         state; providing that such attorneys shall be

  4         governed by the Code of Ethics of The Florida

  5         Bar; directing the Attorney General to adopt

  6         rules for hearings and suspensions with respect

  7         to attorneys who violate the code; providing a

  8         timeframe for the adoption of rules; providing

  9         an effective date.

11  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13         Section 1.  Attorneys employed by the state to be

14  governed by the Code of Ethics of The Florida Bar; hearings

15  and suspensions by rule of the Attorney General.--

16         (1)  Every attorney employed by the state shall be

17  governed by the Code of Ethics of The Florida Bar.

18         (2)  The Attorney General, in consultation with The

19  Florida Bar, shall establish a procedure for hearings with

20  respect to violations of the Code of Ethics by attorneys

21  employed by the state and a procedure for the suspension of

22  such attorneys for such violations. The Attorney General shall

23  provide for the adoption of such rules no later than January

24  1, 1999.

25         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

26  law.
