1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to weapons and firearms;
3 providing that a nonresident who is a United
4 States citizen may carry a concealed weapon or
5 firearm in this state if the nonresident has
6 attained a specified age and holds a valid
7 license to carry a concealed weapon or firearm
8 issued in another state; providing that a
9 nonresident is subject to the same laws and
10 restrictions as a licensee in this state;
11 providing that an out-of-state license to carry
12 a concealed weapon or firearm remains in effect
13 for a certain period following the date the
14 holder of the license establishes legal
15 residence in this state; specifying how legal
16 residence is established; providing an
17 effective date.

19 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

21 Section 1. (1) Notwithstanding section 790.01,
22 Florida Statutes, a resident of the United States who is a
23 nonresident of this state may carry a concealed weapon or
24 concealed firearm while in this state if the nonresident:
25 (a) Is 21 years of age or older; and
26 (b) Has in his or her immediate possession a valid
27 license to carry a concealed weapon or concealed firearm
28 issued to the nonresident in his or her state of residence.
29 (2) A nonresident is subject to the same laws and
30 restrictions with respect to carrying a concealed weapon or
31 concealed firearm as a resident who is so licensed.

1 (3) If a nonresident who holds a valid license to
2 carry a concealed weapon or concealed firearm issued in his or
3 her state of residence establishes legal residence in this
4 state by registering to vote, making a statement of domicile
5 pursuant to section 222.17, Florida Statutes, or filing for
6 homestead tax exemption on property in this state, the license
7 shall remain in effect for 90 days following the date on which
8 the holder of the license establishes legal state residence.
9 This section applies only to nonresident concealed weapon or
10 concealed firearm licenseholders from states that honor
11 Florida concealed weapon or concealed firearm licenses.
12 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 1998.

17 Clarifies the reciprocity provision by specifying that the
bill is limited to nonresidents from states that honor Florida
18 concealed weapon or concealed firearm licenses.
