2 An act relating to the state lottery; amending
3 s. 24.115, F.S.; providing for unclaimed
4 lottery prize money to be used to enhance
5 educational programs for public school students
6 in kindergarten through grade 12; providing for
7 moneys to be distributed proportionally among
8 public schools according to the number of
9 students; providing an effective date.

11 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13 Section 1. Subsection (2) of section 24.115, Florida
14 Statutes, 1996 Supplement, is amended to read:
15 24.115 Payment of prizes.--
16 (2) All unclaimed prize money shall be distributed to
17 the public schools and used, at the principal's discretion, in
18 consultation with faculty and parent-advisory organizations,
19 to provide additional materials, equipment, or services to
20 enhance the educational programs offered to students in
21 kindergarten through grade 12 added to the pool from which
22 future prizes are to be awarded or used for special prize
23 promotions. Unclaimed prize money shall be distributed
24 proportionally among the public schools according to the
25 number of students in kindergarten through grade 12.
26 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 1997.
