2 An act relating to school attendance; amending
3 s. 232.0315, F.S.; requiring presentation of a
4 certification of a school-entry comprehensive
5 vision examination and analysis; providing for
6 exemption; providing an effective date.

8 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10 Section 1. Section 232.0315, Florida Statutes, is
11 amended to read:
12 232.0315 School-entry health and vision
13 examinations.--
14 (1) The school board of each district and the
15 governing authority of each nonpublic school shall require
16 that each child who is entitled to admittance to
17 prekindergarten or kindergarten, or is entitled to any other
18 initial entrance into a public or nonpublic school in this
19 state, present a certification of a school-entry health
20 examination, and a certification of a school-entry
21 comprehensive vision examination and analysis, performed
22 within 1 year prior to enrollment in school. The school board
23 of each district, and the governing authority of each
24 nonpublic school, may establish a policy which permits a
25 student up to 30 school days to present a certification of a
26 school-entry health examination and a certification of a
27 school-entry comprehensive vision examination and analysis.
28 Any school board which establishes such a policy shall include
29 provisions in its local school health services plan to assist
30 students in obtaining the health and vision examinations.
31 However, any child shall be exempt from the requirement of a

1 health examination or a vision examination upon written
2 request of the parent or guardian of such child stating
3 objections to such examination on religious grounds.
4 (2) The Department of Education, subject to the
5 concurrence of the Department of Health and Rehabilitative
6 Services, shall adopt rules to govern medical examinations
7 performed under this section.
8 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1 of the
9 year in which enacted.
