1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to juries; amending s. 40.24,
3 F.S., relating to compensation for juror
4 service; authorizing donation of juror
5 compensation to a program specified by a
6 certified guardian ad litem program or to a
7 domestic violence shelter; providing duties of
8 the clerk of court and guidelines with respect
9 to receipt or expenditures of such donated
10 moneys; providing an effective date.

12 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

14 Section 1. Subsection (8) is added to section 40.24,
15 Florida Statutes, to read:
16 40.24 Compensation and reimbursement policy.--
17 (8) In circuits that elect to allow jurors to donate
18 their jury service fee upon conclusion of juror service, each
19 juror may irrevocably donate all of the juror's compensation
20 to the 26 U.S.C. s. 501(c)(3) organization specified by the
21 certified guardian ad litem program or to a domestic violence
22 shelter in the circuit for the juror's county of residence.
23 The funds collected may not reduce or offset the amount of
24 compensation that the guardian ad litem program or domestic
25 violence shelter would otherwise receive from the state. The
26 clerk of court shall ensure that all jurors are given written
27 notice that they have the option to so donate their
28 compensation, and that the applicable program specified by the
29 guardian ad litem program or a domestic violence shelter
30 receives all funds donated by the jurors. Any guardian ad
31 litem program receiving donations of juror compensation must

1 expend such moneys on services for children for whom guardians
2 ad litem have been appointed.
3 Section 2. This act shall take effect October 1, 1997.

6 SENATE SUMMARY
7 Permits a juror to donate his or her compensation to a
program specified by the certified guardian ad litem
8 program or to a domestic violence shelter in the juror's
county of residence. Such donations may not reduce or
9 offset compensation that the guardian ad litem program or
domestic violence shelter would otherwise receive from
10 the state. Provides duties of the clerk of court and
guidelines with respect to expenditures of such donated
11 moneys.
