  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the Forensic Client Services

  3         Act; amending s. 916.106, F.S.; amending the

  4         definition of the term "court," as used in ch.

  5         916, F.S., to include county courts; providing

  6         an effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9

10         Section 1.  Subsection (2) of section 916.106, Florida

11  Statutes, is amended to read:

12         916.106  Definitions.--For the purposes of this

13  chapter:

14         (2)  "Court" means the county court or circuit court.

15         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1998.

18                          SENATE SUMMARY

19    Amends the definition of the term "court" to include
      county courts as well as circuit courts for purposes of
20    ch. 916, F.S., relating to mentally deficient and
      mentally ill defendants, thereby allowing county judges
21    as well as circuit judges to make forensic commitments of
      incompetent defendants.
