2 An act relating to Collier County; providing
3 for a three-member district board for the Big
4 Corkscrew Island Fire Control and Rescue
5 District, an independent special fire control
6 district and a body of corporate and politic;
7 providing for a referendum; providing for the
8 form of the ballot providing an effective date.

10 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12 Section 1. The Big Corkscrew Island Fire Control and
13 Rescue District, an independent special fire control district
14 and a body corporate and politic, may, pursuant to the
15 provisions of s. 191.005(1)(a), Florida Statutes, and this
16 act, be governed by a three-member board if proposed by
17 resolution of the governing board of a district adopted no
18 later than 30 days after the effective date of this act and
19 approved by vote of the electors of the district in a
20 referendum to be held at the same time as the first primary
21 election in 1998. The ballot question shall read:

23 The governing board of the District
24 proposes that the district continue to be
25 governed by a three-member governing board. If
26 approved by the electorate, the governing board
27 will have three members and seats will be
28 open on the 1998 general election ballot. If
29 not approved, the governing board will have
30 five members and seats will be open on the

8 Section 2. If a referendum proposing to keep the
9 governing board at three members is approved by the voters,
10 the candidates who qualified for the fourth and fifth seats on
11 the board shall be refunded any qualifying fees paid, and no
12 vote shall occur for the fourth and fifth seats at the general
13 election. Elections held for the governing board after the
14 1998 general election shall be in accordance with the terms of
15 s. 191.005, Florida Statutes.
16 Section 3. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
17 law.
