14 On page 1, between lines 20 and 21,

16 insert:
17 Section 2. Subsection (5) of section 99.012, Florida
18 Statutes, is amended to read:
19 99.012 Restrictions on individuals qualifying for
20 public office.--
21 (5)(a) A person who is a subordinate officer, deputy
22 sheriff, or police officer must need not resign effective upon
23 qualifying, pursuant to Chapter 99, F.S., if pursuant to this
24 section unless the person is seeking to qualify for a public
25 office which is currently held by an officer who has authority
26 to appoint, employ, promote, or otherwise supervise that
27 person and who has qualified as a candidate for reelection to
28 that office.
29 (b) However, Upon qualifying pursuant to Chapter 99,
30 F.S., a the subordinate officer, deputy sheriff, or police
31 officer who is seeking public office and who is not required
