  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to Manatee license plates;

  3         amending s. 320.08056, F.S.; increasing the

  4         annual use fee for the plate; amending s.

  5         320.08058, F.S.; providing for the use of funds

  6         deposited in the Manatee Trust Fund; deleting

  7         obsolete language; amending s. 215.22, F.S.;

  8         exempting funds in the Manatee Trust Fund from

  9         certain fees; providing an effective date.

11  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13         Section 1.  Paragraph (a) of subsection (4) of section

14  320.08056, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:

15         320.08056  Specialty license plates.--

16         (4)  The following license plate annual use fees shall

17  be collected for the appropriate specialty license plates:

18         (a)  Manatee license plate, $20 $15.

19         Section 2.  Paragraph (b) of subsection (1) of section

20  320.08058, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:

21         320.08058  Specialty license plates.--

22         (1)  MANATEE LICENSE PLATES.--

23         (b)1.  The manatee license plate annual use fee must be

24  deposited into the Save the Manatee Trust Fund, created within

25  the Department of Environmental Protection. The funds

26  deposited in the Save the Manatee Trust Fund may be used only

27  for manatee-related environmental education; manatee research;

28  facilities, as provided in s. 370.12(5)(b); and manatee

29  protection and recovery.

30         2.  For fiscal year 1996-1997, 25 percent of the

31  manatee license plate annual use fee must be deposited into

  1  the Save the Manatee Trust Fund within the Department of

  2  Environmental Protection and shall be used for manatee

  3  facilities as provided in s. 370.12(5)(b).

  4         Section 3.  Paragraph (t) is added to subsection (1) of

  5  section 215.22, Florida Statutes, to read:

  6         215.22  Certain income and certain trust funds

  7  exempt.--

  8         (1)  The following income of a revenue nature or the

  9  following trust funds shall be exempt from the deduction

10  required by s. 215.20(1):

11         (t)  The Save the Manatee Trust Fund.

12         Section 4.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

13  law.

16                          HOUSE SUMMARY

      Increases to $20 the annual use fee for the Manatee
18    license plate.  Provides that funds deposited in the Save
      the Manatee Trust Fund may be used only for
19    manatee-related environmental education as well as other
      described purposes.  Deletes obsolete language with
20    respect to the Manatee license plate annual use fee.
      Exempts the Manatee Trust Fund from the payment of a
21    described fee.
