  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to firesafety; amending s.

  3         633.537, F.S.; revising continuing education

  4         requirements with respect to certificates

  5         issued by the State Fire Marshal to certain

  6         contractors; providing an effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9

10         Section 1.  Subsection (3) of section 633.537, Florida

11  Statutes, is amended to read:

12         633.537  Certificate; expiration; renewal; inactive

13  certificate; continuing education.--

14         (3)  Effective July 1, 1996, a certificate for the

15  Contractor I, II, III, and IV classifications as defined in

16  this chapter shall not be renewed unless the certificateholder

17  produces documentation of at least 24 contact hours of

18  continuing education in the fire protection discipline.

19  Holders of Contractor V certificates are required to obtain 14

20  contact hours of continuing education, at least 1 hour of

21  which is in the fire protection discipline.  Continuing

22  education obtained by a Contractor V certificateholder may be

23  used to meet the requirements herein, as well as other

24  continuing education requirements that may be imposed on the

25  profession by other provisions of law.  Such continuing

26  education requirements under this section may include seminars

27  and conferences if the program and subject thereof is

28  acceptable to the State Fire Marshal and said education was

29  received no more than 30 months prior to certificate renewal.

30         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

31  law.
