1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to road designations;
3 redesignating the Florida Turnpike as the
4 "Ronald Reagan Turnpike;" directing the
5 Department of Transportation to erect suitable
6 markers; providing an effective date.

8 WHEREAS, Ronald Wilson Reagan was the 40th President of
9 the United States of America; and
10 WHEREAS, President Reagan was one of the United States'
11 greatest and most beloved presidents and a true world leader;
12 and
13 WHEREAS, through his leadership and refusal to
14 compromise, President Reagan won the Cold War for America and
15 virtually eliminated the threat of nuclear holocaust for all
16 Americans; and
17 WHEREAS, through his success in finding peace through
18 strength, fewer Florida servicemen and servicewomen are placed
19 in harm's way; and
20 WHEREAS, President Reagan's economic policies brought
21 Florida and the nation out of double-digit inflation and
22 economically crushing high interest rates into 92 consecutive
23 months of economic growth; and
24 WHEREAS, President Reagan's unbridled optimism gives
25 Floridians and the nation cause to feel better about
26 ourselves; and
27 WHEREAS, his leadership encourages a rediscovery of the
28 values upon which our forefathers founded this nation; and
29 WHEREAS, his unending cause for freedom represents the
30 liberty to travel about our state and nation's highway system;

1 WHEREAS, the people of Florida desire to honor
2 President Reagan in the State of Florida.

4 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
5
6 Section 1. Ronald Reagan Turnpike designated;
7 Department of Transportation to erect suitable markers.--
8 (1) The Florida Turnpike consisting of the 312
9 contiguous mile of limited-access toll highway stretching from
10 Florida City, where South Dade County meets the Florida Keys,
11 continuing northward through 11 counties, including the
12 greater metropolitan areas of Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West
13 Palm Beach, and Orlando, and ending at a junction with
14 Interstate 75 in North Central Florida is hereby designated as
15 the "Ronald Reagan Turnpike."
16 (2) The Department of Transportation is directed to
17 erect suitable markers designating the "Ronald Reagan
18 Turnpike" as described in subsection (1).
19 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
20 law.
