13         Amendment (with title amendment) 

14         On page 1, line 11, of the bill

15

16  insert:

17         Section 1.  Paragraph (a) of subsection (4) of section

18  110.233, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:

19         110.233  Political activities and unlawful acts

20  prohibited.--

21         (4)  As an individual, each employee retains all rights

22  and obligations of citizenship provided in the Constitution

23  and laws of the state and the Constitution and laws of the

24  United States.  However, no employee in the career service

25  shall:

26         (a)  Hold, or be a candidate for, public office while

27  in the employment of the state or take any active part in a

28  political campaign while on duty or within any period of time

29  during which the employee is expected to perform services for

30  which he or she receives compensation from the state. However,

31  when authorized by his or her agency head and approved by the

 1  Department of Management Services as involving no interest

 2  which conflicts or activity which interferes with his or her

 3  state employment, an employee in the career service may be a

 4  candidate for state public office or may be a candidate for or

 5  hold local public office. The Department of Management

 6  Services shall prepare and make available to all affected

 7  personnel who make such request a definite set of rules and

 8  procedures consistent with the provisions herein.

13         On page 1, line 3, after the first semicolon,

15  insert:

16         amending s. 110.233, F.S.; providing

17         circumstances under which a career service

18         employee may be a candidate for state public
