  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to road designations;

  3         designating a portion of N.W. 167th Street in

  4         Miami Lakes as "Zuly Reyes Road"; directing the

  5         Department of Transportation to erect suitable

  6         markers; providing an effective date.

  8         WHEREAS, each year many Floridians are killed or

  9  injured in automobile accidents caused by drunk drivers, and

10         WHEREAS, on April 3, 1993, Zuly Reyes, age 17, the

11  daughter of Gladys and Robert Saavedra was killed by a drunk

12  driver on the Palmetto access road (N.W. 167th Street, between

13  Miami Lakes Drive and N.W. 67th Avenue in Miami Lakes), and

14         WHEREAS, it is fitting and appropriate that the

15  Legislature of the State of Florida commemorate the location

16  of this tragedy as a reminder to all drivers not to drink and

17  drive, NOW, THEREFORE,

19  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

20

21         Section 1.  Zuly Reyes Road designated; Department of

22  Transportation to erect suitable markers.--

23         (1)  That portion of of N.W. 167th Street, between

24  Miami Lakes Drive and N.W. 67th Avenue known as the big curve

25  in Miami Lakes is hereby designated as "Zuly Reyes Road."

26         (2)  The Department of Transportation is directed to

27  erect suitable markers on N.W. 67th Avenue designating "Zuly

28  Reyes Road" as described in subsection (1).

29         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

30  law.
