1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to education; providing for a
3 review over a 4-year period of the portions of
4 the Florida School Code that govern the public
5 schools; repealing chs. 228, 229, and 230,
6 F.S., on July 1, 1998, and providing for prior
7 legislative review; repealing chs. 232, 233,
8 and 239, F.S., on July 1, 1999, and providing
9 for prior legislative review; repealing chs.
10 231, 234, and 238, F.S., on July 1, 2000, and
11 providing for prior legislative review;
12 repealing chs. 235, 236, and 237, F.S., on July
13 1, 2001, and providing for prior legislative
14 review; providing an effective date.

16 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

18 Section 1. The Legislature shall conduct a systematic
19 review of the portions of the Florida School Code that govern
20 the public school system. The review shall cover a period of
21 4 years beginning in 1997 and ending in 2001. The purpose of
22 the review is to eliminate obsolete, overly restrictive, or
23 unnecessary statutes in order to provide maximum flexibility
24 to school districts and school personnel in delivery of the
25 educational program.
26 Section 2. Chapters 228, 229, and 230, Florida
27 Statutes, are repealed July 1, 1998, and shall be reviewed by
28 the Legislature prior to that date.
29 Section 3. Chapters 232, 233, and 239, Florida
30 Statutes, are repealed July 1, 1999, and shall be reviewed by
31 the Legislature prior to that date.

1 Section 4. Chapters 231, 234, and 238, Florida
2 Statutes, are repealed July 1, 2000, and shall be reviewed by
3 the Legislature prior to that date.
4 Section 5. Chapters 235, 236, and 237, Florida
5 Statutes, are repealed July 1, 2001, and shall be reviewed by
6 the Legislature prior to that date.
7 Section 6. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
8 law.

11 SENATE SUMMARY
12 Provides for future repeal and requires the Legislature
to systematically review specified chapters of the
13 Florida Statutes relating to education, over a 4-year
period, beginning in 1997.
