1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to sexual offenders; amending
3 s. 944.606, F.S.; deleting language preventing
4 the Florida Department of Law Enforcement or
5 any law enforcement agency from notifying the
6 community and the general public of a sexual
7 offender's presence in the community; providing
8 an effective date.

10 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12 Section 1. Subsection (4) of section 944.606, Florida
13 Statutes, as amended by Chapter 96-388, Laws of Florida, is
14 amended to read:
15 944.606 Sex offender; notification upon release.--
16 (4) This section does not authorize the department or
17 any law enforcement agency to notify the community and the
18 public of a sexual offender's presence in the community.
19 However, With respect to a sexual offender who has been found
20 to be a "sexual predator" under chapter 775, the Florida
21 Department of Law Enforcement or any other law enforcement
22 agency must inform the community and the public of the sexual
23 predator's presence in the community, as provided in chapter
24 775.
25 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
26 law.
