  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the Sarasota-Manatee Airport

  3         Authority; amending chapter 91-358, Laws of

  4         Florida; providing an alternate provision for

  5         runoff elections; providing an effective date.

  7  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  8

  9         Section 1.  Subsection (2) of section 3 of chapter

10  91-358, Laws of Florida, is amended to read:

11         Section 3.  Creation and membership of authority.--

12         (2)  The authority shall consist of eight members who

13  must be elected on a nonpartisan basis as follows:  four

14  members must be elected for terms of 4 years each on separate

15  nonpartisan ballots at the first and second primary elections

16  to be held in 1990, and each 4 years thereafter, two of whom

17  must be residents of Manatee County and elected by the

18  electors of Manatee County and two of whom must be residents

19  of Sarasota County and elected by the electors of Sarasota

20  County.  Two members must be elected for terms of 4 years each

21  on separate nonpartisan election ballots at the first and

22  second primary elections to be held in 1988, and each 4 years

23  thereafter, one of whom must be a resident of Manatee County

24  and elected by the electors of Manatee County and one of whom

25  must be a resident of Sarasota County and elected by the

26  electors of Sarasota County.  Two members must be elected for

27  terms of 2 years each on separate nonpartisan ballots at the

28  first and second primary elections to be held in 1990, and

29  then for terms of 4 years each on separate nonpartisan ballots

30  at the first and second primary elections to be held in 1992,

31  and each 4 years after 1992, one of whom must be a resident of

  1  Manatee County and elected by the electors of Manatee County

  2  and one of whom must be a resident of Sarasota County and

  3  elected by the electors of Sarasota County. Commencing in

  4  1998, the authority runoff elections shall be held at the time

  5  of the general election, instead of the second primary

  6  election.

  7         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1997.
