  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to weapons and firearms;

  3         amending s. 790.001, F.S.; redefining the term

  4         "concealed firearm" to include a provision that

  5         defines when a firearm carried in a motor

  6         vehicle is considered concealed; providing

  7         penalties; providing an effective date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11         Section 1.  Subsection (2) of section 790.001, Florida

12  Statutes, is amended to read:

13         790.001  Definitions.--As used in this chapter, except

14  where the context otherwise requires:

15         (2)  "Concealed firearm" means any firearm, as defined

16  in subsection (6), which is carried on or about a person in

17  such a manner as to conceal the firearm from the ordinary

18  sight of another person and which, if carried in a motor

19  vehicle, is not readily seen from the exterior of the motor

20  vehicle.

21         Section 2.  This act shall take effect October 1, 1998.

24                          SENATE SUMMARY

25    Redefines the term "concealed firearm," for purposes of
      chapter 790, Florida Statutes, to include the condition
26    that, if the firearm is carried in a motor vehicle, it is
      considered concealed if it is not readily seen from
27    outside the vehicle.
