11  Senator Jones moved the following amendment:

13         Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 

14         On page 24, line 21, after the period,

15

16  insert:  In consideration of the limitation on liability with

17  respect to injuries caused by the operation of rental vehicles

18  which is granted by this subsection to companies that engage

19  in the business of renting motor vehicles in this state and

20  the resulting increase in the uncompensated health care burden

21  that will be borne by health care providers in this state,

22  each rental company that rents or leases vehicles for a term

23  of less than 1 year shall be assessed the amount of $2 per

24  rental vehicle per rental day, which shall be paid into the

25  Public Medical Assistance Trust Fund. This assessment for

26  uncompensated health care shall be indexed on July 1 of each

27  year in accordance with the medical care component of the

28  Consumer Price Index.
