11  Senator Geller moved the following amendment:

13         Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 

14         On page 24, line 21, after the period

15

16  insert:  In consideration for the limitation on liability with

17  respect to injuries caused by the operation of rental vehicles

18  which liability is granted by this subsection to companies

19  that engage in the business of renting motor vehicles in this

20  state and for the resulting increase in the uncompensated

21  health care burden that will be borne by Florida health care

22  providers, each rental company that rents or leases vehicles

23  for a term of less than 1 year shall be assessed the amount of

24  $2 per rental vehicle per rental day, which shall be paid into

25  the Public Medical Assistance Trust Fund. The foregoing

26  assessment for uncompensated health care shall be indexed on

27  July 1 of each year in accordance with the medical care

28  component of the consumer price index.
