11  Senator Jones moved the following amendment:

13         Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 

14         On page 24, line 21, after the period "."

16  insert:  In consideration for the limitation on liability with

17  respect to injuries caused by the operation of rental vehicles

18  that is granted by this subsection to companies that engage in

19  the business of renting motor vehicles in this state and the

20  resulting increase in the uncompensated health care burden

21  that will be borne by Florida health care providers, each

22  rental company that rents or leases vehicles for a term of

23  less than 1 year shall be assessed the amount of $2.00 per

24  rental vehicle per rental day which shall be paid into the

25  Public Medical Assistance Trust Fund. The foregoing assessment

26  for uncompensated health care shall be indexed on July 1 of

27  each year in accordance with the medical care component of the

28  consumer price index.
