1 House Joint Resolution
2 A joint resolution proposing an amendment to
3 Section 22 of Article I of the State
4 Constitution relating to trial by jury.

6 Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

8 That the amendment to Section 22 of Article I of the
9 State Constitution set forth below is agreed to and shall be
10 submitted to the electors of Florida for approval or rejection
11 at the general election to be held in November 1998:
12 SECTION 22. Trial by jury.--The right of trial by jury
13 shall be secure to all, except in cases of a contested
14 paternity action, and shall remain inviolate. The
15 qualifications and the number of jurors, not fewer than six,
16 shall be fixed by law.
17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in accordance with the
18 requirements of section 101.161, Florida Statutes, the title
19 and substance of the amendment proposed herein shall appear on
20 the ballot as follows:
21 LIMITS ON TRIAL BY JURY
22 Proposing an amendment to Section 22 of Article I of
23 the State Constitution eliminating the right to a trial by
24 jury in the case of a contested paternity action.
