2 A resolution encouraging observation of "A
3 Fortnight of Patriotism in Florida" during the
4 period from June 14, 1997, to July 4, 1997.

6 WHEREAS, Congress designated June 14 as Flag Day to
7 commemorate the flag of the United States and celebrate our
8 nation's symbol of freedom, and
9 WHEREAS, brave men and women of the United States have
10 fought to secure freedom for all the citizens of the United
11 States, and the flag symbolizes the many lives that have been
12 given for this freedom, and
13 WHEREAS, democracy, patriotism, and love of country are
14 important to the people of the United States, as are such
15 national symbols as the flag and the national anthem, "The
16 Star-Spangled Banner," which was written by Francis Scott Key
17 in 1814 to honor our nation's flag, and
18 WHEREAS, July 4 is the national Independence Day
19 holiday which commemorates the birth and independence of the
20 United States, NOW, THEREFORE,

22 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
23 Florida:

25 That the House of Representatives of the State of
26 Florida hereby encourages observation of "A Fortnight of
27 Patriotism in Florida" during the period from Flag Day, June
28 14, 1997, to Independence Day, July 4, 1997, and, further,
29 urges all Floridians to rekindle the fire of patriotism during
30 this celebration of flag and country by exhibiting "Old Glory"
