1 House Resolution
2 A resolution honoring Demos Megaloudis for a
3 lifetime of contributions to the City of Tarpon
4 Springs and the State of Florida.

6 WHEREAS, longtime businessman and civic leader, Demos
7 Megaloudis, died suddenly on September 11, 1996, at the age of
8 64, and
9 WHEREAS, described by those who knew him as "a great,
10 quiet man" and "a great and good man," Demos Megaloudis lived
11 a life of care and concern for others, commitment to
12 education, and support of community projects which earned him
13 the love and respect of an entire community, and
14 WHEREAS, born in Tarpon Springs and a lifelong resident
15 of that city, Demos Megaloudis was affectionately known as
16 "Mr. Tarpon Springs," and
17 WHEREAS, Demos Megaloudis was a former board member and
18 director of Springs State Bank, a former member of the Tarpon
19 Springs Housing Authority, an advisory board member of GTE and
20 Florida Power Corporation, a director and officer of the
21 Tarpon Springs Hospital Foundation, a member of the advisory
22 board of the Anclote Manor Psychiatric Center, and a board
23 member and chairperson for Tarpon Springs Community School,
24 and
25 WHEREAS, Demos Megaloudis was also a charter member of
26 the Pinellas County Education Foundation, a member of the
27 education and research foundation advisory committee for the
28 Florida Real Estate Commission, and a board member and officer
29 of the Tarpon Springs Chamber of Commerce and the Clearwater
30 Association of Realtors, and

1 WHEREAS, Demos Megaloudis served for five years as aide
2 to U.S. Representative Michael Bilirakis, was appointed by
3 Governor Lawton Chiles to the St. Petersburg Junior College
4 District Board of Trustees in 1992, and was elected as vice
5 chairman of the board of trustees in 1996, and
6 WHEREAS, Demos Megaloudis has been the recipient of the
7 Ninth Congressional District Distinguished Service Award, the
8 Tarpon Springs Jaycees Distinguished Service Award and Man of
9 the Year Award, has been named Tarpon Springs Citizen of the
10 Year by the Tarpon Springs Elks Lodge, and on three occasions
11 has been awarded the Key to the City of Tarpon Springs, and
12 WHEREAS, it has been said that nearly every aspect of
13 life in Tarpon Springs bears the mark of Demos Megaloudis, and
14 WHEREAS, it is with great sadness that the City of
15 Tarpon Springs and the State of Florida mark the loss of one
16 of its finest and most involved citizens, NOW, THEREFORE,

18 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
19 Florida:

21 That the House of Representatives of the State of
22 Florida hereby honors Demos Megaloudis for his lifetime of
23 selfless devotion and service to the citizens of Tarpon
24 Springs.
25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution
26 be presented to his wife, Stella Megaloudis, his daughter,
27 Chris Rondeau, his son, Gary Megaloudis, and his sisters,
28 Helen Campbell and Angie Huddleston, as a tangible token of
29 the sentiments expressed herein.
