  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution commending Coach Danny Rea Smith

  3         and the Bartow High School Yellow Jackets

  4         football team for winning the 1996 Class 4A

  5         State High School Football Championship.

  7         WHEREAS, on Saturday, December 21, 1996, in Daytona

  8  Beach, the Bartow High School Yellow Jackets won the 1996

  9  Class 4A State High School Football Championship by defeating

10  the top-ranked high school football team in the country, the

11  Bolles High School Bulldogs, from Jacksonville, and

12         WHEREAS, this was the third state football championship

13  for the Yellow Jackets and the first in Coach Danny Rea

14  Smith's 12 years of coaching, and

15         WHEREAS, the Yellow Jackets posted a 14-1 record for

16  the 1996 season, including 10 games in which the Yellow

17  Jackets scored over 30 points, and 6 games in which they held

18  their opponents to under 3 points, and

19         WHEREAS, the championship was a total team effort,

20  reflecting a season of dedicated practice and contributions by

21  all members of the team, NOW, THEREFORE,

23  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

24  Florida:

26         That the Florida House of Representatives joins the

27  citizens of Bartow in congratulating Coach Danny Rea Smith and

28  each member of the Bartow High School Yellow Jackets football

29  team for their accomplishments in winning the 1996 Class 4A

30  State High School Football Championship.

  1         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

  2  be presented to Coach Danny Rea Smith, Principal Terry Ashley,

  3  and each member of the Bartow High School Yellow Jackets

  4  football team as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed

  5  herein.
