  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution honoring the City of Wilton Manors

  3         on its 50th birthday.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, Wilton Manors was conceived at the height of

  6  the 1920's Florida land boom as a comfortable, carefully

  7  planned suburban community, and

  8         WHEREAS, the Village of Wilton Manors was formed on May

  9  13, 1947, and was incorporated as the City of Wilton Manors on

10  June 4, 1953, and

11         WHEREAS, the City of Wilton Manors has maintained the

12  closeness of a small town amidst a modern metropolitan region

13  and, also known as "Island City" because it is surrounded by

14  water, has become a tropical paradise for its citizenry, and

15         WHEREAS, the high quality of life in the City of Wilton

16  Manors is the result of the dedication of its families to

17  building safe and pleasant neighborhoods, and

18         WHEREAS, successful recreation programs run by the City

19  of Wilton Manors have instilled the virtues of teamwork and

20  fair play among its young residents, and

21         WHEREAS, the residents of Wilton Manors have

22  demonstrated a commendable level of civic responsibility,

23  several having served in elected and appointed offices of the

24  city, county, school board, and state legislature, and

25         WHEREAS, the City of Wilton Manors began an innovative

26  recycling program which received statewide recognition at the

27  1991 Florida Jubilee, and

28         WHEREAS, the City of Wilton Manors will be celebrating

29  its 50th birthday on May 13, 1997, NOW, THEREFORE,

  1  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

  2  Florida:

  3

  4         That the House of Representatives of the State of

  5  Florida hereby commends the City of Wilton Manors on its 50th

  6  anniversary of incorporation.

  7         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

  8  be presented to the Council of the City of Wilton Manors as a

  9  tangible token of the sentiments expressed herein.
